Dangerous Heat Wave

Well as many people out there know...we are being plagued by one hell of a heat wave...here where I live the heat as been 110-116 degrees for over 2 weeks...people are dieing...tens of thousands of ag animals are dieing...and today, my littlest dog nearly died...

See we have been putting them out for half hour to 40 minutes long depending on the temp and all of that...today it was 113 and I put her out...20 min...she had to do her business...in that 20 min she nearly died...she was listless...there was a huge pool of vomit, she was all foamy and she couldn't catch her breath...I was so scared...my baby was dieing and I felt helpless...I called my mom...she rushed home...I was soaking my little baby in water, trying to cool her off, 2 seizures...I was freaking out!!!!!!!!!

I finally start to get her cooled off...she starts to calm down, so she can breath...I was still beyond upset, my heart was broken, it was and is my fault...I did everything to cool her off and to calm her down, it was a mess, I was a mess...my poor daughter was freakign out...after an hour of her and I doing everything my dog is showing positive signs of improvement...finally the mom is home...(I have no car to go to the vets, nor any money lol) so we call the vet, they say we got her past the critical point, that we could bring her in to get a check up, but they were beyond full of heat stroke animals...they told me what to do, I have done it all...

5 hours later She is now doing good, even had a little bit of hamburger...but I will never ever forget the way she looked or sounded, and I do blame myself...I should have watched her better...shes 3 pounds, black...I should have been more carefull, shes my baby...so now they will be limited to even less time outside during this freakish heat wave...

I am glad my baby isn't one of the numbers floating around...please people keep an eye on your furry friends...and your elderly nieghbors, so many older people are passing away due to the heat around here...damn I hate this, I hate 113+ weather...ahhhhhhhhhhhh it sucks...

have a nice day and stay cool...any way possible

Awww your poor dog. Poor you!! Poor daughter!! I think you should forgive yourself. I mean you did everything right. You can't be so hard on yourself. You did what you thought was right -- putting her out to potty and play. When you noticed she was sick, you took the proper care.

Your dog *didn't* die. That's the important thing. You caught in time. She needed to potty, you didn't need it on your floors. Good for you, good for the dog. *hug*

I am glad your dog is okay too. I know this heat has been insane! I really want this summer to be over. It has cooled down here and it happened when I thought we couldn't take much more. I know it has been really hot where you are and I hope you can get to some a/c once in a while. Maybe we are in for an early fall?

Re your mammo. I have dense breasts as well and they do the same thing to me. It does NOT mean anything bad Carie. If you are anxious then do get another opinion. Be careful and know your insurance may not pay for it though. It could be costly. I am sorry about your mom.

I hope you get some cooler weather soon. Love the camping photos! I love camping and fishing.

Hugs,
Nancy

That had to be scary for all of you. I'm glad you were able to cool the dog down. I hope you're all staying cool.
